Dear Reader:

If you haven’t booked “that” summer vacation, there’s still time. And there’s no better place than my hometown, Washington, DC. There may be no better time than the last week of the month, August 25 through August 31. Oh yeah, it’ll be hot and humid, that’s DC in August, and it will be busy and the streets will be crowded as Labor Day hits.

But it’s well worth the trip as this is a very significant time. August 28 marks the 50th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King’s iconic “I Have a Dream” speech. To commemorate the occasion, the King Center has planned five days of events in the Nation’s Capital.

Activities include a reenactment of the mile long March on Washington on August 24. Note: More than 250,000 people attended the original protest in 1963. On August 28 there will be a series of speeches delivered at historic sites by President Obama, members of the King family and other civil rights leaders.

This is good stuff; good for families and those seeking to feel a bit of history.
