Brain Brawn & Body and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare
Commemorate Men’s Health Month with a Health and Wellness Summit

MILWAUKEE - June 15, 2015 - On Saturday, June 20, 2015, Brain Brawn & Body, a website dedicated to men’s health, and Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, will commemorate Men's Health Month with a free Health and Wellness Summit at Journey House, 2110 W. Scott Street, from 7 am – 3 pm.

Approximately 400 men and people who love them are anticipated for this inaugural event. All activities are free including an urban breakfast and lunch for pre-registrants. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, Commissioner of Health of the City of Milwaukee, Bevan K. Baker, and officials from Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare, the event’s primary sponsor, announced the health summit earlier this month. While the focus is on health issues that affect men of color, the summit will provide information to assist everyone with their health concerns.

Eric Ford, Vice President - Wheaton Franciscan Medical Group Operations said, "For the third consecutive year, Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare has played a key role in Raising Awareness about the importance of men’s health. This event is designed to continue to engage men and their loved ones in conversation and information sharing about the importance of routine check-ups and preventative health exams.”

Men's Health Month has been celebrated nationally since 1994. In 2013, Milwaukee became one of few cities in the nation to recognize the occasion. It came at the urging of Brain Brawn & Body founder, Eric Von.

"We saw the absolute necessity to raise awareness among men about their responsibility to take control of their own health," said Von.

"The statistics around men's health are daunting, particularly for men of color,” continued Von. “Many of the illnesses and diseases men suffer from are preventable and most are treatable if detected early. Knowledge is the key and raising awareness is one of our primary objectives. Through our website and now, this summit, men can get the knowledge they need so that they and their families can live healthier lives."

Former Green Bay Packers Talk Health

The day kicks off with a Wake Up Warm Up exercise session led by former Green Bay Packer Leroy Butler and professional fitness trainers.

Another former Packer, Gilbert Brown, will conduct a football clinic for youth 13-18 years of age on the Journey House football field just two blocks from the main campus.

The football clinic is open to the first 100 children who register. Gilbert Brown will give an anti-bullying talk to children following the clinic. Separate registration for the football clinic is available at
